book writing

Ok there is a reason for the lack of blogging. All my writing energy has been put into writing about our experiences here over the last 7 years.

It is like writing a giant debrief form!

We are well into 12 chapters, got the bones together now we need to flesh it out. It's cathartic but also challenging.

We think we will call it "Curious in Ibiza" could work but will need a strap line. Something like "A journey into expressing the life and mission of Jesus in Ibiza" I'm not too fixed on that, we'll see what develops.

At the minute our mantra is "just write the stories", the other stuff will become clear.

Its also interesting writing with my wife, her grammar is much better than mine.

My favourite chapter title so far is "Gay man dancing" followed by "Jesus and sex god" or "prostitutes and roses"

Book writing

I have just got back from a very hectic week out and and about in the Uk and Ireland.

Getting ready to return to the UK for Christmas on Saturday which should be fun, I am speaking at our old church DC3 on Sunday and then we are at the carol service in the evening. It's hard to feel Christmassy here it's cold but not icy, sort of jeans and jumpers weather.

One of the reasons for lack of blogging is that Tracy and I are writing a book about our last 7 years here in Ibiza. I know it is something I have talked about from time to time but now seems like the right time. It feels like a giant debrief from. This blog has proved very helpful in gathering coherent chronological information from our time here.

Sometimes I want to preach from the chapters but I think the best way is to let the story speak for itself and allow people to take what they want from it.

Some potential chapter titles:

Gay Man Dancing
Vomit Van
Prostitutes and Roses
Can Strippers Use this Place?
Sorry to interrupt your meeting!

I am struggling to think of an actual title? Maybe we should just call it Curious in Ibiza?

6 Years

Been living in Ibiza 6 years today, although I am presently in Dubai visiting some friends, which is why I haven't blogged in the last week.

When we moved to Ibiza it was meant to be from 3 - 5 years! So we are already a year over the mark.

We have loved it, it has been the best time of our lives. Not been completely easy but as Bill Johnson says "It's hard to speak of the price we pay when we get Him in the exchange."

Sorry just a short post, but wanted to give God the glory for sustaining us, providing for us and leading us on our journey.

Also thank you for reading this blog and sticking with us as well. It has been an interesting journey for me to have done this but I look back at old posts and it's almost like a journal. Thank you for reading it.

It's time to get this book written, I can tell you now it's going to be called "Stumbling Journey" thats how t's felt in Ibiza for us!

A book

So I am writing a little book got a working title, chapter outlines and have written the intro and chapter one. I'll see if it flies, have toyed with the idea for a few years now but only feel a liberty to do it now.

It will generally relate to the life we lead out here, stories from the west end, little analogies and lessons learnt. The first thing you ask yourself is, "have I got anything to say?" the second is "will anybody read it?" once you get over those two thoughts and start to see that perhaps you have then you should be ok. We came up with 13 or 14 really good chapter outlines, just got to fill in the blanks.

I'm also finding the blog helpful for interesting stories to use and a great way of jogging my memory.

Alongside that, I seriously want to pursue the idea of getting "God Bless Ibiza" Message New Testaments printed for next summer. We really think it will work. The idea would be I get 5000 printed, thats a minimum print run and then sell half of them to fund giving the other half away. Believe me we will get rid of them.

Anyway I have books on my mind right now, which is all good.
