Old Age

Tracy has arrived back from Madrid, she was there with a friend from Ibiza. Dave has arrived today to work with us for 2 months, he has come over from Australia which is great.

I am feeling slightly more optimistic about next week, maybe it's more a state of mind than anything else. I'm not totally sure of the power of positive thinking but I know it helps. If I am tired, hungry or ill my frame of mind isn't so good. My blood sugar dips and I manifest grumpiness.

Do you ever wonder what your going to be like when you are old?

I'm worried I could become a grumpy old man. There are certain aspects of old age I look forward to, like being able to wear clothes from Austin Reed and Jaeger. I have a stiff knee now and think it could get worse, I've had two bouts of surgery on it. My back hurts at times and my right elbow gets stiff! I just hope I don't fall apart.

Actually I wouldn't mind a motorised wheelchair and occasionally when I wake up in the night needing a wee I wish I could wear incontinence pants. We've all been there, haven't we?

I like what Albert Einstein had to say on the subject "People like you and I, though mortal of course like everyone else, do not grow old no matter how long we live...[We] never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born."

Anyway I'm only 38, when I was younger I used to think 38 was old but I was wrong......

Irish Proverb "don't resent growing old, many are denied the privilege"

I've never wanted to wear incontinence pants!

You get the face you deserve at fifty. I'm trying my best to be very nice due to that incentive ;) It will save me a fortune in plastic surgery!

I think the key to being happy in your old age is to never grow up. Stay silly and only your body will fall apart. That's my theory anyway!

Wow Brian, I have been an avid reader of your blog for a while now in RSS and must say that this and then next post hit extremely close to home! I am the same age as you and cannot believe that I am alost 39 which brings me closer to that landmark 40! Yeah, I used to also think that was old but now that I am here... sometimes I "feel" older but on the whole I don't fit into what I used to think a 40 year old should be. A film that influenced me was "Pan" with robin Williams - look at what happened when Peter Pan grew up as he was expected compared to what he could be! I also believe that we are lead by jesus to be all we can be and yeah, that means looking after the aging body too - oh, did I also mention that your next post was about me? Shalom from Down Under!
