Camp Rioja
We have Stevie Smyth out with us at the moment, having a great time sampling various Rioja's personally this is my favourite wine of all time. I am not a big lover of New World wines I find them a little to heavy and they can make me feel a little nauseous especially the big fat wines from Australia and New Zealand.
A number of years ago, along with a few friends, we attempted to start a wine company, it didn't work out. Although I got to have some fantastic wine tastings and travel to hang out with friends so it wasn't a bad move.
Why does no one ever say "this wine tastes of grapes" it's always stuff like "subtle hues of winter berries underlaced with a slight hint of gooseberry, ideal with red meats and truffles"
I want one that says "Tastes of grapes, ideal for drinking with friends"
Proverbs 31: 6-7 : Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish;let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.
Whats that all about then? and what was Jesus doing turning water into wine?
Sometimes when I am confronted by a bottle of wine I pray that it will turn in to water, it never happens so I just drink it anyway.
I also love Champagne, but can't afford to drink it, did you know that the classic champagne glass derives from a mould of Marie Antoinette's breasts!
I will leave you with a final word from Martin Luther
"Who loves not wine, women and song
Remains a fool his whole life long"

I love a good glass of wine... escaping misery--that's what it's all about, right? ;-)
you are a funny man.
pretty much the only time I manage to drink champagne is when the nice people on BA offer the cheapy stuff to me as my pre-flight cocktail. I didn't know that about the glass.
Personally I think champagne is over rated, over priced and makes me drunk very quickly, so I don't drink it. Tried a lot of wines from different countries and I have to say you can't beat a good bottle of French wine. Still the best, but Spanish and Italian are good substitutes. Don't actually drink very much now though..
